That tank looks a little different than mine. My pickup tube/sending unit is on the front on a slight slope whereas it appears yours is back on the tank and even (hard to see it) attached with screws? Your looks longer than mine but that just might be the photo angle.

This may explain the difference in tanks. Maybe some engineer had to work on one like Mal's and found out it was a PIA.

Couple of further pic's of the 41 120's tank. Pickup tube/sending unit is on top of tank forward of centre on the upper flat surface, behind the dish on the upper front, and is attached by 5 screws. I'd imagine length would be the same.

It is a PIA! But from the parts book it looks like the 41 tanks for the 120(1901) was a completely different tank to that for earlier years.

I've included some pic's of the replacement aluminium tank that Wade had fabricated for his '37 120 but they don't really tell the story. I never lined up the '37 and '41 tanks and compared them. If the old '37 tank is still around I'll have another look it next week.

There's an Ammeter/Gas Gauge for a '41 120 on eBay now -

But we removed the complete dash in order to access everything there for re-wiring. Even that was a struggle.

Regarding the sending unit, it should probably work after a thorough cleaning. NOTE Getting a good ground is critical to it's operation.

I'm going to avoid removing the dash. That did that on a '51 Frazer and it was no fun getting it back on. If I can find a gauge rather cheaply, I'll just hang it up under the dash for once-in-a-while looksee. I did clean the sending unit real well, but get no response from it all with a voltmeter. When I got the car the dash gauge would stick on 1/2. This car was converted to 12V, so unsure the effect of that. That's very useful information on the two different tanks.

If I remember right those stainless tanks were over $1,000.

The maker used to post on here all the time, but quickly wore out his welcome.

Not all of us have the luxury of spending $1,000 on a new tank. If someone does, then great that is then probably the best solution for them. I know I dont have that kind of extra scratch laying around. But I may be able to come up with $200 to have a rad shop boil it out so I can get my car back on the road.

I'm with you BK. B4 I paid a $1k, I'd just use a 10-gallon boat tank in the trunk. My Packard ain't no concours trailer queen but an infrequently driven car I like to enjoy time to time and I am confident in the gas tank renu process having had three done (all on Packards, never any of the other orphans). I can appreciate craftsmanship but then I have to look at practicality.
