Pretty sure the original front mounted six attached to front cross member and that is still there. The Jag motor is using the same holes via a steel brackets and rubber mounts.

Everything is going to come down to cost, cost and cost.

I have an excellent 1940 245 available! It was fully rebuilt years ago and driven a bit, then disassembled for a water jacket repair which was professionally done and not yet reassembled. but should have everything there to put it back together except maybe some valves and hardware! Even with shipping it should be less than rebuilding the Jaguar engine!

The story of Mark putting this car together and you trying to extend his vision and legacy with this unique combination would cause me to fully understand the Jag engine issues before replacing. I am normally a guy for at least near originality, but in this case, that combination is so far off the norm that it is really likable. Anyone can stuff a sbc into any thing, or even a Packard V8, or a 245, but seeing those cast aluminum valve covers just reeks of specialty. Your car, tough decision, but I would want to understand how far gone Jag engine is before ditching.

Mark's notes on this car pretty much stopped shortly after the rod knock comment. I think that's when the car went into storage out at the farm and he then lost interest in the project.

If a good similar era Jag motor dropped into my lap, then that would be a no brainer as the engineering is already done.

But 10-12k for a Jag rebuild for sure isn't going to happen.

I would not do that either. But I might investigate far enough to see if bearings, rings, knurling, and valve grind would get me there. If not the ………next

In other news....

New wheels and tires installed. They fit much nicer and I think look more appropriate.

Nicole took it for a test drive and said it rode much smoother and steering at low speed was much easier.

On her test drive, two Huskies ran into the road from between two houses and Nicole mangaed to lock up all four wheels. Brakes work, and new tires slightly less round.

...also....trunk didn't fly off in that panic stop. So my mounting solution proved effective.

I think for anyone looking with black wall tires, these are for sure a good looking, inexpensive option (less than $100 per tire), having the correct size tread width and diameter. These are tubeless plybias tire.

They for sure fit better under the fenders than the prior ones.

I think they look very nice with wheels that Mark painted and pin stripped.

If you're going to go through all the work of swapping the engine with something else, then wouldn't it make sense to install an authentic six-cylinder Packard and put it back to original? Purchasing a Six parts car should be relatively inexpensive, then you have all the needed pieces to make it right.
