Hi Steve. Happy new year and welcome to PackardInfo.com.
Please post a couple of photos of the car. It could be a good start to look at the photos in the Vehicle Registry. You might find a matching image of your father's car there. And while you're at it, you can also register the car in the database.

The should be a "patent" plate on the firewall that has the Vehicle Number. That number can be plugged into the Decoder here on the website to give you information about the vehicle.
The Decoder also had information on what those plates look like and where to find them.

As Guscha said, to Packardnfo. And I endorse his recommendation to include your '50 Packard in PackardInfo's Packard Vehicle Registry. BigKev's suggestion should really help you in identifying your Packard.
