Some huckster on eBay is printing the pages here from the Decoder for various cars and trying to pass them off as original "VIN" documents for $500 each. Even the pictures he is posting have the browser scroll bars visible.

They have been reported to eBay.

Gotta pay for that project somehow...

Some years back, someone bought an iPad for a very low price and got exactly what they saw in the eBay listing: a picture of an iPad!

I once bought a packet of lemon cream waffles in the dining car of a train. When I got home, I opened the packet. Inside was a recipe for making lemon cream on the bone-dry waffles.

The seller is a complete jerk as well. He doesn't understand that it is a dynamically generated image, not an original Packard document. He is claiming that is not what he is selling, even though he has virtually nothing in the description, and only that single picture.

He even said I should "Thank him for generating traffic to my website."

Umm, buddy, I don't need help generating traffic, and nothing in that picture even refers to the website. What a knob.

I added three reports as fraud and the more of us who do so, the more likely this idiot will be booted off eBay. You can watch for others here

We need more people to report this! The seller is very abrasive and even obnoxious without any apparent clue of the legality of what he’s doing.

I reported all three as well.

Also he doesn't understand while the data on that page is pretty much in the public domain, the actual design of that page is not. It's copyright PackardInfo.com, as it doesn't copy any factory vehicle sheet or document design.

All he had to do was copy and paste that data into the description of his item, and no problem. But instead he screenshot it, pasted that as his item. Didn't provide any description of what somewhat is buying. Its using an ambiguous title, and with that as the only picture, is giving the false impression to someone that doesn't know better, that image is what they are buying and it is some kind of OEM, original document.

Instead he just dug in his heals and decided to be abrasive.

When I reported to eBay, I did so under the copyright/counterfeit pull down menus.

I also sent him a message for the three items as follows:

"I believe you know this already, but this is a fake item from the Packardinfo.com website and does not contain any VIN information. I, along with others, have reported this to eBay."

Here is is response:

"Yes and I have also reported him now as well as yourself for harassing me. This is only a screenshot of the serial number information which is allowed on that particular website and is public knowledge."

I find it comical as the the description in his listing clearly says "...with VIN..."

I'm guessing that eBay at least make him pull the listings if they don't kick him off for good.
