For those wondering about the status on the engine, I spoke to Russell late last week and he had opened the crate to inspect it for any shipping damage and inventory what I put in the crate. All is good there, except for some minor damage to the bottom corner on then crate, probably from a wayward forklift skid. But the crate did it's job.

He is finishing a few other items that were in queue before me and hopefully will be starting on it shortly. He said it should go fairly quick once he starts working on it. Which is fine since the car is still a ways off from being ready to accept it back.

This trunk emblem casting we repatriated from New Zealand.

The plan is to put this on the metal trunk we got at Hershey.

What I am looking for is either an oval Packard Six or Packard Crest emblem that will fit on it.

Perhaps one of the Crest radiator badges?

This is bit bigger than those. So eyeballing it, the oval would be something like 2-1/4" tall by 1-1/2" wide.

It would look like this, or just the Crest without the Six.

The final result is to replicate this, except without the 120 part:

Or... you could do the 120 thing, as the XK engine in your car first appeared in a Jaguar 120

There is the germ of an idea if the one you want doesn't come along. Use your expertise and make your own emblem holder on your 3d printer to hold a crest and a whatever. You could pay tribute to the Packard with one of the many size crests available but somewhere in the oval work in some kind of smaller Jag engine branding too.

Yesterday I decided to replace lower seal on the steering box as it has been leaking. Flackmaster was good enough to send me a new seal:

The old leatherseal was toast. The biggest time suck on this job was getting the pitman arm off. None of the local parts stores or HF had a pitman arm puller that had a wide enough opening. So I had to MacGyver a puller using a smaller axle puller I had. Which also involved a block of wood and a couple vice grips. It's wasnt pretty, but it worked.

Even though I filled the box in the summer, it must have quickly run dry as the box was empty.

The upper shaft bearing feels crunchy. So at this point, time to do a full rebuild and replace both shaft bearings.

Also the oddball steering column bearing at the top of column was cracked and missing some of the ball bearings.

That exact bearing is NLA, so ive got something on order from McCaster that I hope will work. That top bearing needs to work both radially and axially since the shaft may not always be in exact alignment. I found a spherical end shaft bearing that I hope will fit the bill.

The worm rollers and everything else look OK to me.
