The plastic ones are quite nice as you can SEE when they are dirty.
I would suggest simply buying another.

What brand and micron number should I be considering. I like the ones you can see through also.

Same as you already have: NAPA SFI 23002. Cellulose media. $5.39
If yours clean, why change it?

Thanks for the info, I had a problem with the fuel flow and figured I'd change it out for the new season.

Having one of those plastic filters so close to the exhaust manifold could be a recipe for disaster. I suggest either relocating it, using a metal filter or getting one of the correct style glass filter housings.

Good catch by Kev, Steve, which may've averted disaster. He's right. Most of us have glass bowl filters before our carburetors, and the NAPA type transparent plastic filters back near our gas tanks where we have electric fuel pumps for the sake of priming the fuel system.

Admittedly I haven't looked that much, but I do have an old glass type I've considered adding but wanted to get a better idea of the actual filters that were available. Anyone have a link or name/part number as a starting point to find a modern filter to go in it? (seems pretty close to my riding mower's at least in size.)

Use the old glass type but should be easy to adapt to a modern replaceable filter inside.
