i can't quite figure out the engine inside my packard i recently bought this i think it is a 1955 custom touring sedan, it has a manual and blue interior,

the vin is 55627524

the body number i think is 5562 - 7524
trim is 42 the paint is 60

it looks like a 3 tone

if anyone has information that they can give me about my packard that would be excellent i really need it I'm trying to refurbish this car so i can turn it into a daily since i have no other car

the engine turns over but the spark plugs were really rusty so I'm a little worried

If the engine is original, the VIN will be stamped as shown in the image.

Fortunately you are near Mike Dulinski who can get you all the V8 parts your heart desires.

What is the history on the car, and how rusty is it? These are not terribly hard to work on. The manual transmission is a very rare option, about 3% of production. A Custom with a manual was the fastest (best 0 to 60) Packard of 55, and as I have heard, the 3rd fastest of anything, behind the T-bird and Corvette. Impressive considering it's a full size sedan and not a sport coupe.

Yours will also have the wonderful torsion bar suspension. Best ride ever. But, the power brake will be unreliable from years of sitting. I highly recommend to rebuild the unit and thoroughly overhaul and flush the brake system before hitting any public roads or unlevel ground.

The engine number is also often in an easier to see location on the front passenger side of the block just below the head. 5562-7524 would be the VIN (with the dash and no spaces) even though most states leave out the dash on the title but regardless, if it’s the original number it will match the VIN. If it doesn’t match, then the engine number can be looked up separately to find which it is.
