I did a little bit of housekeeping last night on the website and adjusted a few things. Hopefully this should make the website pages a little more snappier in their response (speed), compared to the last coupe of months.

It wasn't slow before, but thanks for the "speed" maintenance, Kev. Keep up the good work!

Response until just recently had slowed to a near-crawl (Windows XP and Internet Explorer) and is now much improved. Thanks.

Except for a couple of transient slowdowns, I hadn't noticed a problem from work, where I have high-speed access and am running WinXP and IE8.

However, it seems to be running much faster from home this AM, with only a dial-up connection, WinXP and IE6 (though I am about to upgrade the browser).

Cable connection here and a bit better but still hit and miss--although there seems to be other traffic causing issues as well. Aside from messages "waiting for or transferring data from packardinfo.com", I'm seeing "waiting for google analytics" messages today. Firefox seems to like to have all the pieces in place before much happens.

The website does seem faster; but I have no hard proof of a change from yesterday to today.

I wonder how they come up with that?!

Well I figured out how they come up with that. There is a SPAM domain server out of Pakistan that is creating new users here on the website, and leaving ambiguous forum posts. You can see several of them on the Branson thread. Basically there as BS posts with nonsensical content, and SPAM link in the signature line.

I have blocked the domain the users are using for email, and turned on Email authentication when a new user registerers. All of these SPAM users have been deleted. So now the forum posts from those Users should show "Guest" as the user name until I can delete them all.

What benefit would there be for a spam server to just post replies in a discussion forum as they did? Don't see how there could be any kind of revenue stream or anything else to make it worth while--and don't think anyone here would be stupid enough to reply in a way they could get personal info. What am I missing?
