Jim,

See this post in the Wades Workshop Blog Wade tells me the secret is ensuring the paint is properly mixed in the can. Drove me nuts with that constant rattle, rattle, rattle, and I think Wade ended up with something like tennis elbow after all that can shaking.

You can cut down the shaking or mixing of paint by leaving the can upside down overnight.

I shake until I hear the ball rattle then 100 more shakes.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. What I want to achieve is getting the aluminum back to looking like it was when new. I don't want to paint it to achieve this result, jut clean off the oxidization and baked in stain from oil, etc. I tried a weak acid solution on a small area but didn't get down to bright metal. Maybe I need to "kick it up a notch".

Just woodgrain it.

Seriously, the aluminum blast from Hirsch worked for me.

If you are going to driv it, I would think paint would be the easiest way to keep it fresh looking as you will get stains on it.
