Want to finally put the decals on my 31's oil filter and need to know the correct placement. I have two; one Puralator filter, and one Mileage decal. Which one goes where?

Any thoughts/photos would be appreciated.

I have been looking for the same filter and decal for my 1929
Model 633 Touring car. Do you have a resource you would be willing to share?

EF-2 Purolater filters, modified to take modern spin-on elements inside but essentially OEM in appearance otherwise, are available from a couple of sources. Burr Ripley for one, and I believe R&A Engineering. Both advertise regularly in PAC publications, and I believe in CCCA as well. Let me know if you can't find phone #s. As to decals, most all the standard Packard vendors like Kanters, Max, etc. have them, as does PAC and probably PI.

I suspect one decal goes on each side of the seam, the Purolater logo one on the top (forward) section of the barrel, and the "install at" below the seam, and reading correctly from the rear of the car and installed wrapping around with the circumference of the unit. At least that's what I've seen on restored cars, never seen an original so I can't say for certain that that is correct.

I've attached a few pictures showing where most restorers have placed these.

I haven't run across any factory pictures with enough detail to see if these decals were installed at the factory, or at the dealership.

One of the pictures shows an "original" engine. If you look closely you can see an oval decal that may be the Purolator one.

I've had good luck with filters supplied by Burr Ripley. Good quality and hard to tell the difference from an original. His filter takes a modern spin on filter inside.

One note on the oil filter, make sure you have the restriction fitting in the filter line. This fitting is a double male fitting with a small orifice, around .050 to .060 dia.

Since the filter in this series is bypass not full flow leaving this restriction fitting our will reduce the flow and pressure of the oil going to the engine bearings.

Nice engine. Is the finish on the crankcase cleaned aluminum or a painted on product?
