Thanks guys. I really do appreciate all the kind and thoughtful words. The website would not be what it currently is without participation and knowledge that is freely shared amongst all it members. For that, I am truly grateful.

Thanks to you BigKev, and your hardwork and dedication, we have this wonderful Packard website. Not forgetting all the others who contribute in many ways to making this site as successful as it is, but without you it just wouldn't be possible. So to have The Christmas Elves come to the party, so to speak, is a just reward for all you do for us, I only wish I had been one of them!

Thanks for the nice words guys. It really means a lot to me.
Santa thought my car had to much rust so he left me this with a note to get to work on it!

Big project for the day...... upholstery wrapping.
I went to Lowes and bought a roll of pallet wrap (industrial saran wrap), and fully covered the new seats and doors panels to keep them clean and safe until I am ready to install them in the car. By daughter helped me with the otherwise awkward process. And I thought wrapping up left overs from dinner was a task!! I may take another look at the valve adjustment to see if I missed something obvious when I get back in the garage this afternoon.

Went over the valves again. No different in the persistent clack. I also ran another compression check everything out again now that I have a few hours on the motor.
When I checked the motor before when I had first got it able to run, I was get 118-120 across all the cylinders. That was taken with the motor cold and only a few minutes of run time on the motor. Now with the motor warmed up, and about 4 hours on the motor every cylinder is right at about 150, with cylinder 5 at 145. I guess the rings are seating better than they did on the first test. So pretty much stellar compression. Now the problem of the day, the throttle cross shaft carb lever broke. It snapped off right at the base where it is attached to the shaft. Looks like it was perviously broken before and re-welded. Rather that repair it again (since it has obviously broken more than once) I am just going to try to find a complete cross-shaft assembly. So no more running the motor until I can get that fixed/replaced.

A quick eBay search, and I discovered that Joel (packards1) has a '54 Throttle Cross-shaft (Gear-start only version) for sale in his eBay Store. So purchased, and hopefully on it's way to be shortly.
