At this writing, I don't even know how to find the VIN on the car.

Should be a tag on the drivers front door jamb. Will start 55xx-xxxx. If that is missing, the original engine will have the number stamped on a flat area on drivers side sort of below and behind oil filter at front of engine. A flat space between front of block and cover to valve lifter galley. The numerals will probably be dirty and can be faintly stamped as well. If plate is gone or engine has been changed, then no other place to find original number.

Looks like it's fairly complete so the start of a nice project.

If you find the vin number, there is also an embossed number on the firewall above the heater box on passenger side. It is the body ID or "thief proof" number. Essentially meaningless now since the records did not survive but some cars with lost titles or missing vins have been successfully registered with it since it's the only permanent number ever on the car.

One of our members is compiling a database of the numbers so if you would be willing to supply that number and the vin, it would be appreciated.

All project cars are like than. Mine was tri-color; Bikini blue, primer, and rust. Nothing a little elbow grease and determination cant fix.

Have one in somewhat the same condition. Was going to restore it but am getting too old. Lots of good parts so will probably end up parting it out. My two other 55s keep me busy.

I could not find a plate on the door jamb; instead, I found what looks to be where the plate might have been.

Also, I have not yet found the number on the engine but will look further.

In the meantime, I did find a group of 6 digits on the firewall just above the heater box on the right-hand side. These number are: 025365. I'll attach some more photos.

Here is a post of an engine showing the location to look. As mentioned, it will probably be covered in grease and may be very faintly stamped as well.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... ic.php?post_id=15140#forumpost15140
