How are '34 front frame rail covers secured?

In my Project Blog I posed a question for my mate Wade about how the front frame rail covers are affixed a '34. Much effort was expended in making what was thought to be a spacer but it now looks like it is really a fastener! The part(fastener?) in question has a hex head at either end, one end is recessed while the other end is tapped for a 1/4" 28TPI NF Thread and the middle is cylindrical. What we need to know is how does this fasten the frame rail cover to the frame? We think it might screw into the stud that threads into the "captive nut" which is near the front of the frame and frame rail cover.

Terry,
Thanks for offering to look at your '34. But....you're unlikely to be able to see anything because of your car being together. The "fastener" in question should be hidden by the panels below the radiator shell. As to where it is, we think it should be under the top part of the front frame rails just forward of the radiator shell. There is one "fastener" on either side, so nearside and offside. What we were hoping for is someone who has had theirs apart and can advise. Pic below pinpoints the location. Attach file: (22.34 KB)

Mal, I believe Dave C has a '34 as well and perhaps can shed some light.

Sorry guys, never had mine apart. If it turns out it's something that can be seen w/o disassembly, then I'd be glad to take a look & photos.

Dave,
Unfortunately disassembly would be required, but thanks nevertheless. Going to expand reach of request by also posting on PAC and AACA Sites later today if an answer isn't available by then.

Received confirmation on the PAC Site, this thread, that the nut is correct but still not clear on it's positioning.
