hello all. hope you will excuse any errors, but i am what is known in s. africa as a 'new one'. i have a 1938 120 and need two items to further my restoration. 1. patent plate which i understand was a paper sticker, and 2. thermostat coil as fitted within the exhaust manifold pocket, and which then operated the cold starting choke. either a repairable unit or even a diagram with some dimensions so i can make one. many thanks. dnielsen.

Welcome! Just curious, how did you find this site - referral or on your own?

The patent plate (vinyl sticker) is reproduced through one source only, Andy Wolf, P.O. Box 20606, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46220. I'm sorry, I do not have an email for him. Maybe someone else does?

I should have the thermostatic choke insert for the exhaust manifold, I will look and post back with picture, condition and price in a day or two.

hello flackmaster, i was introduced to the site by stuart of kanter, who have always been most helpful. thanks for the postal address of andy wolf. i was given his e-mail address by stewart via vivian devine, however i did not get a response, so i assumed the site was inactive.
i will be most interested in the details of the choke thermostat. when i bought the car it was fitted with a carter carburettor, this i swapped for, a stromberg. unfortunately this is a mix of different models, the air horn is stamped 10-28, the body is a model ee-23, both of these as fitted to a 1938 super 8. the base is indistinctly marked. so far i have jetted the carb according to ee-14 specs. all the choke levers and of course thermostat were missing, hence my interest in this item. if i could get a rebuildable ee-14 or ee-16 carb or even some of the major components, i would be over the moon.
i look forward to hearing from you.
regards dnielsen.

dnielsen,

I talked to Andy tonight and you can reach him at:
awolf@werewolf2010.com. The price of the data plate is $44 plus shipping to your location.
Good luck on your project. I know it will be a beauty when you get finished.

OK, Pictures of the choke plate. Adjustable from within, spring is merely held on with a small cotter pin (not shown). link from choke plate to carburetor choke, but its gotta be the right carb. I can provide an EE-14 as well, should you wish to have a correct setup - the EE-23, notwithstanding a creative adaptation, will never have the correct performance.
