Thanks for the welcome Ozstatman. I entered my car's information into the registry today. I noticed that others had been asked for the "Thief Proof Number" (the number embossed into the firewall?) but I didn't see a query for that. The VIN # on the registration documentation doesn't correspond with any of the numbers that I see on the car, including the number on the plate attached to the firewall.

There are other numbers on the car (e.g. frame by the steering mechanism, and a brass tag rivetted to the floor boards. The engine number I took from the driver's side front engine mount.

for including your '29 Standard Eight Coupe in the Registry.

Regarding the "Thief Proof Number" - The Registry was set up some years before we became aware of Owen_Dyneto's research into this facet of Packard history. As O_D, Dave, is still actively researching these I'm sure he'd be pleased to receive details of yours. You can do this publicly in a post, or privately by PM or email. Dave's research is seeking to establish relationships between the TPN and the number on the plate attached to the firewall. And along those lines the Engine Number, which you've included in your Registry entry.

As to the "other numbers on the car (e.g. frame by the steering mechanism, and a brass tag riveted to the floor boards." Don't know if Dave is interested in the frame number, could be? But the brass tag should be of interest to some. Is it a body number?

Thanks Mal - yes the brass tag is the body number - it reads 337, which I believe is the body style number for the Club Coupe, followed by another 4 digit number.

I received a reply from Andrew Beckman at the Studebacker National Museum. He sure is prompt! Here's what he said: "I am sorry to report that we do not have drawings for the body wood in our collection. The Archives has many other Packard prints from that era, but unfortunately nothing for the wood. Best wishes with the restoration!" And your right,they need a part number to check against their engineering drawings. So I guess I'll keep looking.

Welcome to the site! I live in Thunder Bay also and would love to see your car someday. There is another 626 coupe in town that is restored. You may have seen it at the car shows. You will find expert advice here so enjoy!

It looks like you have a nice project ahead of you. I'll be watching with great interest,as I am working on the exact same car,mine was even green and black,although in much worse condition than yours.As far as the wood goes, I was not able to find much in the way of drawings or diagrams.my father is a retired wood worker,he has been recreating and repairing pieces for me using the old ones as patterns.for me its the hardest part, but as long as things fit right and are solid, most of it will be covered up by the interior when its done.good luck with it ,I can't wait to see more pictures.

Thanks Dan - I've attached another picture from a different angle. The licence plate on the back came with the car (Texas 1972). Having a pattern for the wood to work from would be the best. I guess its just trial and error otherwise. I wasn't sure what the roof wood was supposed to look like until I saw pictures of a couple of "barn finds" on eBay that showed the exposed roof. My roof will have to be redone because the attempt by a previous owner is not very good. It would be great if others on this site who have experience with repairing and replacing wood components would share some tips and pictures.

How far along are you. Are you ready to post some pics?

Rod, here are some shots of a 626 interior sans upholstery. I believe are from a sedan but they may help anyhow. That's a nice ride you have there and we will help as much as we can. I'm working on a 733 sedan right now.
