does anyone have a schematic for how the vacuum lines are routed to the wiper motor? Or a picture?

Out of fuel pump
Across to frame
Back along frame
Frame to cowl
Up cowl and inside cabin

Across inside right cowl to wiper motor (there should be an indication of where the tubing was mounted on the inside of the firewall)

One more question, where is the wiper head mounted to the firewall or under the dash?

Under center dash behind air vent with control arm under the wiper button.

Thank guys for the help.Apparently the arm from the wiper switch was not making contact with the pawl on the wiper motor took all of 10 minutes to fix it.youtu.be/6TW9EJhHsYI.

Here's a question that has bugged me for some time: when 'at rest', should the arms be pointing together (i.e. 'at rest' in the center of the window) or pointing away from the windshield center?? Or, does it matter? To my way of thinking, they 'look better' neatly nestled together in the center of the windscreen, but on my car they are splayed outward. They work fine as soon as they are engaged, but as soon as they are shut off, they snap, quite forcefully over to the outside. Is there a right and a wrong here, or should I just be glad mine work?!?!?!? Chris

I think a lot of people agree with you that they look better pointing inward. Packard has the six pointing out in a photo from the 39 fact book showing the dash and another photo in the 39 model info section that appears it might be a factory photo also shows the six outward. Eights seem to point inward.

Looking thru photos in the archive lots of six owners have them point in but on more than one it looks like the wipers overlap the center chrome bar if they do point in. Looking at the Trico sheet above is it possible to reverse the R-L side link positions fastening to the pivot bar on the motor and have the operation reversed or do the 39 sixes have electric wipers like the later models?

Thanks for the reply, as always. No, mine are operated by a Trico vacuum pump and now, especially with my new engine, with presumably better vacuum AND a new double chamber fuel pump, they are really quite impressive. That the Six brochure shows them outward certainly answers my question on the 'correctness' of the query; and if that is the 'factory setting' - so be it, irrespective of what I think looks better or not; if they're right that way, I'll leave them. But thanks for the clarification - I wasn't sure if the 'last guy' had had them apart and maybe put the pump in backwards or something and then I would probably go the extra mile and change them. I am a huge 'factory' fan and want as much as is reasonably attainable on my car to be original. I know there are always exceptions to that 'rule' and sometimes it's money, others it might just be pragmatism, but deviations do happen!!
