Packards at Auction in Australia

Auction is taking place on Sunday 23rd February so for those not in Oz still time to book a flight! Or even if you're in Oz, it's a big country!

There are 13? Packards on the block, unlikely that many would have reserves, believe they just want to clear them. They were part of a much larger collection(700+ cars and 700+ motorcycles) which is gradually being dispersed,

Link to auction site

Condition ranges from "fair" to very rough, ie returning to the earth from whence they came.

I was able to view the cars today and took too many photos. I've attached one of each of the Packards, if you want more of a particular car just let me know.

For O_D - Tried to get photos of TPN's and ID plates but many were missing, obscured or whatever. Will forward what I have by email in the near future.

Thanks for posting Mal. Wish I was 'down under' just to come and have a look! Those 'pre-wars' sure look, as you say, 'rough'. Do the shrubs and bushes growing up inside them come with the winning bid?!?! LOL Just the same, to the right buyer, there would be 'good stuff' in any of the offerings. Chris.

Thanks Mal for the photos, looks like an interesting auction. The black 21st Series Clipper appears to be a Custom Super. More photos of which would likely be of interest to potential bidders.

Rust and overgrowth is the bane of automotive preservation the world over. If I didn't know the location of these, I'd think they were in the northeast U.S.

Mal,

Can you get pictures of the data plate on the driver side door post of the 55's? And the theft proof numbers?

Are they right or left hand drive?

The 55 400 looks pretty good. Looks like a left hand drive.

LTRD,

The 55 Four Hundred is LHD while the two 55 Clippers are RHD.

Tried to get photos of TPN's and the date plates of all the Packards with only some success. The date plates were missing on one of Clippers and on the Four Hundred. While the TPN's on the Clippers were unreadable because of a heavy under or sound deadening coating on their firewalls. Pic's below of what there was.

David,

Only two specific pic's of the Airflow and another in a group shot. I'll post them here for everyones edification. Don't think it'll contaminate the site too much.

SHHHH......Am only supposed to dessiminate Packard pictures but seeing you asked.

Steve,

Have a photo of the data plate which says 2122-8236. Which, from the Model Info pages here on PackardInfo, identifies it as a Custom Super Clipper Eight Touring Sedan with the 356. I see it has the airflow tube to direct air into the oil filler cap/breather but has a substituted cap which makes the purpose of the tube irrelevant.

Posting some more pic's of the car in question.

The 1935 1201 Eight coupe (818 226) effectively doubles the known number of RHD 818 coupes, to the best of my knowledge. Mine is 818 220. Unless someone can step forward with more known RHD 818s, this one is unique, as it has sidemounts while mine has the rear mounted spare. This one could be beautiful and special restored; with dedication it will probably be ready to drive and enjoy before mine!

John in Tassie

PS Thanks Mal for sending me pictures, and BDC for also alerting me.

John,

Regarding the 818's, I'd opine that a run of RHD cars was done early in their manufacture so they could then concentrate on LHD cars thereafter.

No need to thank me, just doing "my job". Although in this instance I'm more like a puppet because in effect I'm disseminating info on behalf of the auction. Still, it gets the word out there about some Packards coming on the market.
