1940 steering wheel

I have a 1940 1810 Touring Sedan with what I believe
is an incorrect steering wheel. It has an "H" pattern
and I would like to know from what year & model
the wheel came.
Thanks for info.

Do you have a picture? There is an optional wheel for 42 that I think looks more like a K--but maybe an H. Others I see have either 2 or 3 spokes.

The "H" pattern wheel is 1939 and 1940 factory base wheel for the Senior cars. It is uncommonly seen on the 39-40 junior cars.

Learn something every day. Didn't recall this one at all or else never paid much attention. flackmaster, is this the H you're referring to or is there still another? For some reason, IMHO, this doesn't look that Packardy--more like it would belong on something rounder or more daring or sporty.

This is the wheel I have on my car in your foto.
Since I am a senior maybe I deserve this wheel,
but my car is definitely not a Senior Packard.
If someone wants to trade this wheel for a 1940
banjo I would be happy to oblige. Mine is in
excellent condition having been restored recently.

G'day John,
to PackardInfo, but sorry I don't have a steering wheel to trade as the only wheel I have is the one in my '41 120 Coupe!

And a request of you, could you please include your '40 Sedan in the Packard Owner's Registry here, together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it?

Yes, that is commonly referred to as the "H" wheel, vs. the "K"wheel (41-47 Banjo Accy.).
I have a 39-40 Junior standard wheel here if you prefer being correct, decent used, $100, but personally, I would keep the "H" wheel, if even to twist the brains of many Packard guys...not a common wheel. DAF

John,
for including your '40 One-Twenty 4-Door Touring Sedan in the Packard Owner's Registry. I for one would be interested in knowing more about this "Since running board rubber was not available I had the boards covered with Rhino lining, looks great."

OK, and if you still must have a banjo wheel, I have one I would either sell or trade. One used 39-40 Banjo wheel, restoration candidate, i.e. good spokes and hub, horrible perimeter plastic, of course. $240.40 delivered, or half that if I get your H wheel, or make me an offer.

The running boards were taken to a shop specializing in
Rhino lining. I know there are many of them and they
seem to take care of pickup truck beds primarily. The
material used is rubberized and seems to be indestructible.
Unable to buy covers from Steele or anybody else I contacted
someone who was restoring a '40 1810. He said that he applied
fiberglass to his boards to make them smooth and then used
flat rubber used in bus walkways to cover. I wanted to retain
the washboard effect on my boards and went for Rhino lining.
It looks great!
