A few things done today. I took the rough bronze "eyelet" casting that Flackmaster sent me and ground it to shape. This is part of the convertible top B-pillar swing arm doo-dad. My passenger side one are some some brewed replacement that was nowhere near the correct shape or geometry. This rough casting was made to work on the left or right, but then you had to grind away the excess material to make it either a left or right. Also being a rough casting none of those holes were drilled. So that was part of the "machining" that needed to be done.

It was originally riveted to the channel with 3/16 solid rivets. I used 3/16 carriage bolts and locktite.

I also worked on replacing a rotted layer of metal on the rear end of the running board. There was originally a sandwich of metal there that captured the end of the running board rubber between them. Without this sandwich the board would be about 3/16" short. So I. had to make the piece that rotted away. I'll fill replace the rubber with some sheet rubber I have and then just pop rivet this back together.

We were supposed to go to very large car show today at a place called Cantigny. But alas, rain had other plans. They usually get 300-500 cars. They really should have rescheduled but they didn't. It was a rain or shine show. I doubt many went as its been tipping down rain since last night.

Oh well, that was pretty much going to be the last outing for the season. But if we have a spat of nice weather, perhaps something else will pop up.

The weather broke in the afternoon and my wife's distant cousin was in town with a friend so she treated them to a ride in the '37s rumbleseat.

After about a 15 min ride, we switched to '54 as it was getting chilly outside.

Hey, Kevin… I while back you were thinking you may have a 20 gallon tank instead of the 17 gallon and requested tank dimensions from folks with a 120.

Curious…what were the dimensions of your tank? I’m asking because I bought a new sending unit from Max Merritt. It’s about 1.75 in too long for my thank.
I measured my tank again and it looks like 36.5x21x7 which would calculate out to about 19.3 gallons. So, I think I have the correct tank and Max Merritt just sent the wrong sending unit. I’d just like to confirm things before I call them.

Can I see what that entire sender looks like? It looks different than mine.

Here is a picture that has the old and new. I think my old one is the style of yours. I spoke to them at Max Merritt before purchasing. They use this newer model for numerous models and just customize the length etc..

It is 0 to 30 ohms and operates the gauge perfectly. It’s just too long. It’s made so that you can adjust the float up (to shorten it), but the intake line is too long as well.

I'd call them and send them the picture. Perhaps they sent you the wrong unit.

I think so too, here is what my original one looked like and it matches your original unit, the stem is shorter than your replacement.
