Definitely need some kind of lube at all the pivot and sliding parts of the regulator and metal tracks. The white lithium may repel water but I am not sure about how much an issue the dirt might be. Think almost any grease including vaseline is going to attract dirt over time. You might also investigate some of the latest synthetic water repellant types and if you can find one that states on the container it is non drying so much the better. I used a clear water resistant synthetic on my 47 window mechanism but don't have the container to remember which one. So far it seems to be working OK.

The original white Lubriplate the factory recommends definitely dries and hardens over time and I don't know if the generic white lithium grease is any better. I used some of the lithium grease on the 47 trunk lock mechanism and in a couple of other places. It seems to have developed a brown crust already but still feels OK underneath. No idea if the crust will eventually turn hard though.

Wd-40 makes a dry spray lube that I've been using on parts that you don't want to attract dirt. It works pretty good.

Go to Mercedessource.com. Ken has a video discussing lubes for doors and windows. He really likes the synthetics.

Before I can move forward on the interior I have to address the leak around the front passenger door. The gasket in both front doors have been replaced by previous owners and appear to have been stuff bought from local auto shops. I opted for the replacement set from Steele. They sent a crude basic set of instructions but without the original set to go by, I am just guessing. The larger lower hinge pillar (reverse L) appears to go halfway under the fender. The upper hinge pillar gasket appears to fold over a metal lip and seems to go up and under the windshield trim. There are several tiny Phillip head screws in the chrome trim of the windshield where the upper hinge pillar gasket will go. I do not know if these held a metal strip in the original gasket or if they are part of the chrome trim. Plus, not real sure of the pathway of the door gasket where it meets the two hinge pillar gaskets. Does anyone have pictures of the proper way these 3 gaskets traverse. Any tips. I would really love to get it right the 1st time. Thanks.

1 panel done, 3 more to go. Got the leak down to a couple of drops with the garden hose aimed right at the door. Feel pretty good about that so the carpet is going in next.

Pretty sure that's better than when the new 55 bodies left the factory. They had to add a splasher with self tappers then eventually changed the rubber molding.

That door panel looks great! Did you do it yourself?

Yes, I did. Wish I could say that I was able to do it on the first try, but no. The arm rest required about seven attempts and finding the right gauge of metal and method of attachment for the pins to the chrome was three failures before I succeeded. The panel board also went through a few trials and errors, finally settling on FRP. Hopefully door panel #2 will go a lot easier.
