I was given the name of a Ultramatic specialist in the Portland, OR area by the transmission man, whom I trust, who did the work on my Lincoln and Imperial. The Ultramatic guy is Tom at Transmission Exchange here in Portland. I called him when I was dealing on the '55 400 and he said a complete rebuild with new everything is $3,280. I'm not sure if he takes "mail orders" but I can find out.
If the Twin-Ultra on my '55 Patrician has problems it is going to be Tom who takes care of it for me.

I guess this is as good a place as any to post a warning.
On pp 48 of the TWIN ULTRAMATIC section of the 55-56 Service manual it states and shows (Fig 167) that the bell housing should be torqued 55-60 ft-lbs to the transmission housing.
Friend Ron remarked when he was putting my trans back together that that spec seemed very high when bolting the aluminum bell housing to the aluminum trans case. He carefully torqued it down, but I went back later and re-read the spec.
That spec was tightening down the 55 aluminum bell housing to the 55 cast-iron case. They cast the 56 case out of aluminum.
I think they forgot to update the specs when they added the 56
supplement pages to that section.
What say you??

my bell to case was fine on my 55, so i can confirm the torque setting works on cast casing.

I say you be correct. Several charts I looked at all say when threading into aluminum, decrease the iron torque spec. The spec in the manual is even a bit higher than the charts list for 7/16-14 grades 5 or 8 bolts into iron.

6. Capscrews threaded into aluminum may require reductions in torque of 30% or more of Grade 5 capscrews torque and must attain two capscrew diameters of thread engagement.
