Just to muddy the waters a bit: GM - Delco - continued to use the Packard name on its wire products. A brand name, not a manufacture name.

Cause that was Packard Electric..... A separate entity from the very beginning who probably had their own trademarks. Two companies can have the same name trademarked as long as they are in different industries. I am sure when the trademarks for Packard Auto and Packard Electric were established when the family had their hands in both companies still, so they were not going to fight their own trademarks.

I don't think that muddies the waters, that was the former Packard Electric Co., also a company founded by JW and WD, which was sold off after they entered the car business.

55Packardguy, I know you didn't make a connection between Tucker and the Gullickson engine but you did mention it so I just thought I'd throw that in. The reason I made the connection between the Gullickson engine and an aviation origin is this quote from the Ryan-Falconer site on the V12:


The Falconer V12 was brought to market in 1990 by world renown racing engine builder, Ryan Falconer. Designed as a thoroughbred racing engine specifically for marine and aviation use

Thanks for the clarification, Owen. I noticed that about Falconer marine and aero engines, too. Wonder what applications they're talking about. The only engine I saw pictured was the "street rod" 12 with the SBC engine mounts. It was stated somehwhere else around here that there are some "roots" shared between the Packard V12 and the SBC. Cubic inch displacement for the Packard indicates a small-bore design. There are V8s out there with similar cid.
