My manifold in that pic is what the fresh-cast manifold paint looks like.

Hello all. I just posted this on my blog and decided to post
The manifold was painted using a high temp 1200 cast blast finish purchased from Brandon Enterprises,P.O. Box 511, Trevose, Pa. 19053-0511.
The paint number is 16-2688. It shows a manufacture calledSeymour of Sycamore, 917 Crosby Ave. Sycamore, IL. 1-800-435-4886. They have a web page www.seymourpaint.com .
I found this paint to be so close to a blast finish you need to be cautious as to not miss any spots.

Some folks paint the exhaust manifold black to ward off rust. That was not factory but accepted by the PI Judging Guide since it was commonly done as the exhaust manifold was quick to rust and "back in the day" stove pipe black was the most easily available heat-resistant paint.

Good news, the engine runs, and is much quieter now that I have put a gasket between the intake and exhaust manifold, and had the water pump rebuilt.

The carb still has a delay when I step on the gas. Works fine if I sneak up on it. Why?

That could be a number of things but suspect #1 would be the carburetor accelerator pump. Either the plunger is worn out, the linkage has excessive wear and play, the check velve(s) are not functioning properly, or the jet is clogged. With the engine off and the air cleaner removed and the choke valve help open, the very first initial movement of the acclerator linkage should result in gasoline discharging from the pump jet; with a firm full stroke of the accelerator linkage a steady steam of gasoline should discharge.

If that checks out OK, I'd check for a vacuum leak somewhere, possibly the distributor vacuum advance diaphram if you checked other likely places.

When I accelerate quickly there is a pause. If I accelerate slowly everything is fine.
