Except for a few standards used over several years like black or Packard Blue, most will only be used for a year or two after introduction and should be fairly easy to find in the paint chip section.

You can buy the paint from any local auto store that sells paint and bodywork supplies. Your painter will get the paint from his favorite supplier. All he needs is the name and/or the code number. The local dealer may have to send to the home office for the formula but they should be able to get it in a day or 2. Once they have the formula they can mix up all the paint you want. Some will put it up in spray cans too. The spray cans are rather expensive and to be used for painting small parts. You will buy paint by the quart or gallon for a paint job.

There are no precut kits for the leather. You have to buy the hides then cut and sew them. It takes a very heavy commercial machine to sew leather. And a very skilled upholsterer with steady nerves. You see with leather if you make a mistake in the sewing you have to throw that piece away and start again. It is not like cloth where you can rip out the stitches and do it over. Once the needle perforates the leather you can't sew it again and leather is very expensive.

For the Bellevue color, says following, is the complete mix to make color n,kn(L)

I take it this is formula for Bellevue ?

I thought the Galahad Green would two tone better if required

Are the above the Formula as in codes?


When you mention Home Office, do you mean Paint Sprayer in England will need to contact the American Home Office for Formula? Is there not a paint specialist in America that could forward me the formula to mix these these colors correctly?

Any suggestions who might have the Formula?
Do Kanter have the Formula? I'm a bit confused how the Home Office will help?

Whether your UK supplier of automotive paints can gain the same access to paint formulas in the USA as those based there is another matter altogether. As the colors are Dupont, is there a Dupont head office?
Also, the 54 conv in Bellevue color in packardinfo photo liberary for 1954, is he a member of forum? Anyone know him ? He would know who has formula or who ever painted his car would.

Gary, you're making this overly complicated. The original formulas are of questionable value anyway as the same tinting pigments may no longer be available. You take the NAME of the paint, and it's original DuPont or other maker's # for it to your paint supplier. Any paint supplier willing to make the effort should be able to have it's paint maker mix to match.

PS - but first you've got to decide what kind of paint you want, acrylic lacquer, acrylic enamel, single-stage urethane (for non-metallics), base coat/clear coat, etc. For example, Galahad green was Duco (DuPont) 1522-H. Sikkens or any other paint manufacturer should be able to match as a matter of simple routine from that information.

Your painter must have a favorite brand of paint that he uses all the time. All painters do. So, you go to the local paint dealer who sells your favorite brand of paint and you order the paint, giving the dealer the original 1954 code number and paint name and brand of car. In this case it would be 1954 Packard Bellevue Green, code N. You would also have to tell him how much paint you want.

The conversation would go something like this.

You: Hi I would like to order one gallon of paint, 1954 Packard Bellevue Green, code N.

Counterman: OK let me check and make sure I can get the correct formula. I should have it by tomorrow.

The counterman would then communicate with the home office or headquarters of the paint company by telephone or Email and they would send him the correct formula. He would then mix the paint.

I hope this is clear. There are other details to it, such as knowing exactly which type of paint you want but I am trying to keep it understandable.

I think the above explaination is still too long and complicated. Here it is again in simplest form.

Go to the paint store and tell the counterman what you want. 1954 Packard Bellevue green, code N. He will mix the paint in the back room and have it ready for you in a day or 2.

Or even easier leave it to your painter to order the paint.
