I've had this same trouble on just about every page on here. I just delete my cookies and cache and it goes away for a while. I think it's a bad cookie somewhere. Maybe the chocolate chips went bad?

I found the problem. I had put a check to make sure only ".jpg" files were acceptable, and that worked fine. But another user tried to upload a file that was like 10megs in size. This killed the thumbnail resizer. So I added another check to ignore the file if it's over 1meg in size.

Hopefully this will fix it for good.

Kev,

Another accessibility issue with the Owner Registry but this time within the Registry.

When opening 'some' of the Registry entries the pic doesn't display. Examples are the Packardbaker in the first entry, 1954 of Robert Neal, all of West Peterson's entries, 1942 of 42Packard and 1939 of FLjoyrider. And there are others. Is this a file size or type problem or could it be my setup?

Sorry to keep bugging you about the Registry but us Obsessive Compulsives are like that!

Kev,

It's happening again. Just the big blank page when trying to access the Owner Registry.

Ditto!
Just a white screen of white Packards with whitewalls chasing polar bears across arctic landscape.
Or maybe it is just a blank screen like Oz sees from downunder.

Fixed. Bad photo was gumming up the works. What is odd is that I have all kinds of error trapping in place. But for some reason when it hits a bad picture, it just goes south. It maybe some weird PHP server setting that is causes it to abort on any error. I will investigate.

Ok, I think I have exercised all the demons out of it for good.

The thunbnail generator I am using is fast, but not very forgiving, so I may swap that out later. But I found the reason that it crashes, and I now pre-inspect the images before letting the thumbnail generator touch them. If they fail my pre-inspection, then I skip the thumbnail generation for those failed images.

The main problem I am seeing is that folks are trying to upload picture that came right out of their cameras. Some of these pictures where over 4352x3264 in size. That is just too large for the website to handle, and takes up too much space on disk. Those large sizes are great for printing nice clean photos to frame and things like that. Just they are not web friendly. 1024x768 is a good balance of quality vs size. The max on the file upload is set at 1280x960. If you try to upload a file bigger than that, it will simply discard the photo.

So if you upload a file and it doesnt appear. That is because the image was either too large, or not a .jpg.

So to get website friendly pictures, you can do one of two things.

1) Change the image size on your camera so it takes photos at the appropriate size.

2) Use PC softare to resize the photos before uploading. There are various free softwares available on the internet that can do this for you. I will let others suggest what they use.

Kev,
again for this new fix not to mention everything else you do for Packardinfo. Looks like you just about pulled an 'all nighter' to get to the bottom of this one! I wouldn't want you to lose any sleep over me and my attachment to the Owner Registry, so take it easy please. I really can't thank you enough for all you do here to make it such a great Site.

You are more than welcome. I

A far as the all-nighter, it's one of those things were once I start working on a problem, I can't leave it until its fixed. Plus I wanted to really test it through several worse case senarios to see how it reacted.
