Daytona Parts Co.

I may be the last to know this but I went to the website for Daytona Parts Co and found this on the main page.

----------------------------
October 23rd 2015

Effective immediately Daytona Parts Co. will no longer provide any rebuilding restoration services for carburetors. We regret this decision, however our line of over 800 high quality alcohol resistant Carburetor repair kits and Carburetor parts will still be available as usual.
---------------------------

Looks like I am going to have to rebuild it myself or find someone else when the times comes.

Yes, this news was noted a while back on this site. There are quite a few other good and reliable carburetor rebuilders around but I always felt Daytona was the gold standard. Their kits are outstanding but I will miss them as a rebuilder - they did both the 4GCs on my Caribbean and many other different carburetors for my friends, just superb both in appearance and function.

OD's right. And their unique "Daytona float valve" is a real improvement over the usual needle and seat. So if you need your carburetor thoroughly, correctly rebuilt, order a Daytona kit and send it to Jeff Dreibus, The Old Carb Doctor, Nebo, NC, 1 (800) 945-CARB. Tell him a '47 Super Clipper in Walnut Creek, CA referred you.
Jeff used to, perhaps still does, White Post Restoration's carb work.

A reference for customers? There is no need for. Daytona accept credit cards.
But when it comes to the references of the company, I'm glad to mention three revitalized Soviet carbs.

Stewart- They still do provide the restoration and rebuild service to their Wholesale dealers. I will call my rep tomorrow and make sure nothing has changed on this. I have this one available for a 56 374.

They recommend Chris's Carb Shop in Dayton, OH. I have the carb off my 120 there right now, and will report back with results.

They were good with the pre-war Stromberg gas dumpers because they knew how to remove the main jets and clean the air bleeds which are a total headache. That is why I used them. After talking with Tim it was clear he had the experience in that area. Those units require a specialist to do properly given they way those jets come out.

The later Carters with the economizers pretty much represented the final development of the carburetor until the advent of the computer controlled main jet.

However, carburetors are a challenge because I am certain the venturi erodes over time and creates problems, especially during light cruise where carburetors can reach 23:1 A/F. As do the air bleeds and idle circuit. That is why an off the shelf new carburetor always performs better than a rebuilt. And why a low mileage unit runs so sweetly. So carburetor rebuilding even with a dyno-lab is a compromise.

Tim,
Who has that AAV-26 expertise? Daytona, Chris', or Old Carb Doctor?
I wasn't clear to whom you were referring.
Thanks,
Joe

Just got off the phone with my rep. Yes, Datona still rebuilds carbs. They have suspended their factory restorations. They will clean and re-kit your existing carbs the just will not replate them.

Thanks, Troy,
That's what Ron at Daytona wrote to me, but I still need to know who has the real expertise that Tim Cole referred to regarding the "Stromberg gas dumpers" which I have and am so stubborn about because it is correct for my car. I have a Carter that works fine, but I would be so much happier to get the Stromberg AAV-26 working properly and apparently it has some special issues internally. Externally, one major problem is the spring by the fast idle cam.
Mine is shot and possibly not included in the kit. I waiting to hear back from Ron on that.
Joe
