"Money in hand, I will drive you around to show how well it rides. YOU can drive when it is yours."

It's seems a beautiful car and priced very reasonably, but it's laughable that the seller thinks a buyer will gladly hand over $15K on faith alone. With that attitude I wish him good luck but hope he doesn't need the extra room in his garage anytime soon.

It seems so, along with many other makes and models of that vintage in general, their era is passing. There must be at least 5, maybe 6 55/56 Caribbean convertibles on Hemmings now. I've actually given some thought to selling mine; I've had it now for 20 years, many enjoyable hours and miles, and maintaining two cars is getting to be a chore, not all the pleasure it once was.

I look at how long cars are for sale. There are cars sitting unsold for years. Eventually they will become estate sales. Some of this stuff is even finding its way into junk yards. Besides the demographic effect there is the persistent decline in the US standard of living.

Since I don't hesitate to pack up and move ten times zones away I am not thinking of buying anything until I retire. However, given I have been in the hoy polloi for 30 years I don't know if I could stay in one place. Especially if the phone rings.

For sure there is a crash coming. On my last business trip I was watching the auctions on the hotel TV. $265,000 for a VW microbus is absurd. There are millions of those things running around Rio. An argument can be made that cars are like paintings by dead people and will never go down in price. I don't think that is valid logic because there is no status in owning a microbus the same way as owning a Rembrandt. Supposedly high priced art impresses women because they identify with it the same way as diamonds and emeralds. Most women look at old cars as being stupid.

Pretty soon these cars may be a hobby again the same way as the Model T is.

The Caribbean that's listed for $46K has many issues that need addressing.

Must be the water in the crankcase that adds all those 0's to the price.

The 55 Caribbean does look nice in the picture, BUT, makes you wonder with the crest on the hood what else is going on.

LTRD - I was under the impression that the Packard shield was on the hoods of all the 55-56 Caribbeans. Que no? JWL

The hood crest was only on the 1956 Packards.
