EDIT: I misread Bob J’s response. I think that is what I needed. Your unit is the same length of my original. Thanks!

I know that the new unit will not look the same as the old. They are using a new unit where the float length can be adjusted, but then they custom make the intake tube to length.

What I really need to know is how long is the sending unit supposed to be for a 120? From the flange to the bottom of the intake tube.

Just thought I'd provide an update and then won't post about this on Kevin's blog anymore.

I spoke with Chris at Max Merritt and sent the photos and measurements. He's a bit confused as the new unit matches what they have in their plans. He's going to investigate further.

My old unit seems to be 6.5 in in length compared to 8.25 in of the new unit. My tank measures (best I can tell with the rounded corners etc.. to be 36x20x6.75 which calculates out to about 20.25 gallons. I'm sure the extra 0.25 is due to not taking the rounded corners into account. So, I'm pretty confident that I have the correct original tank. We'll see what Chris finds out.

Thanks again for the help.

"Stainless steel didn't get (accidentally) discovered till WW2."

Stainless Steel was invented by Elwood Haynes ( as in Haynes Apperson) before US entry in WW I because his wife was complaining about polishing the silverware.

He was trained as chemist, and built the first long distance gas pipe line. He had the Apperson brothers build an auto around his ideas in 1893/94 to make inspection of the pipe line easier.

Best

I got all the metal components of the top assembly mocked up to see what fasteners I am missing.

Flackmaster was able to provide me two wooden top bows. The front bow needs to be refined still.but the general shape is close. The rear bow is ready to install, but sadly does not fit a coupe. So we have decided it must be the rear bow for a convertible sedan.

So I'll have to find a pattern for the rear so I can make one.

One question I have is what are the fasteners for this area? It's for sure larger that the other fasteners. I'd imagine there are a few washer and a nut as it slides in a slot.

Poor man's car cover to protect the interior from dust until I get a top on the car. An old king bedsheet and a couple of magnets.

Also I put the cover on the '54.

Tony was nice enough to send me his original rear bow so I could use it as a pattern to make a new one from.

Shot the the running board and supports with some ancient leftover black single stage urethane I had left over from painting the inner fenders on the clipper.
