G'day Shawn39,
to PackardInfo. The number you quote is probably the Theft Proof Number, which is stamped on the firewall, O_D should be able to advise more on that. Also need more info if there is no Patent Plate on the firewall/cowl. To start, is it 6 or 8 cylinders, have a bench seat in back or "jump" seats? Pictures would also help in identification.

And a request, once identified, could you please include your '39 Coupe in the Packard Owner's Registry here on PackardInfo?

As Mal said, the 495027 is a "thief-proof#, and that tells us that the body is for a 1939 Packard, it does not tell which of the 4 car lines they made that year that body is for. Nearly all of the original factory and dealer records that would tell us more about the car that carried that number have not survived. So to identify the car:

Seating configuration, as Mal said.

How many cylinders, 6, 8, 12?

If 8 cylinders, where is the distributor located, on the driver's side of the block, or mounted on the cylinder head?

What's the wheelbase?

Photos always help.

Too bad the vehicle number plate is missing, there generally is no way to recover the original number unless you can obtain it in documentation from a prior owner.

Gee, this is getting hard. The tyre size doesn't help either, as all '39's had 16" wheels of some description, looks like later wheels have been swapped onto the car. The wheelbase helps to narrow it a bit, could be a One Twenty or a Super Eight. So what about emblems, badges or trim pieces saying things like One Twenty or 120 or Super Eight? If you can't get pic's to load have a look at this FAQ. Failing that email the pic's you want posted and I'll load 'em up.

Shawn,

What about taillights, are they on the car? If so they should be able to tell us something because 120 and Super Eight taillights are different.
