1935 Packard vs Cadillac

Drove both my 35's today: my 35 packard eight coupe and my (wife's) 35 Cadillac coupe. Very comparable cars. Wheelbase 134 vs 136, 130 HP straight 8 vs V8. 4660 lbs cadillac vs packard 4475 lbs. Price: packard $2470 vs Cadillac $2345.

The Cadillac has independent front suspension and the Packard solid beam.

Packard sold almost double the amount of senior cars (6961) than cadillac (3636):

35 Packard production:
Eight: 4781
Super 8: 1392
Twelve: 788

35 Cadillac production:
V8 (on 128, 136, 146 &149 inch wheelbase): 3209
V12: 377
V16: 50

Packard was mopping the floor with cadillac in 35, and the drivability of the packard is superior over the cadillac but at higher speeds (55+ mph) the independent front suspension drives nicer.

But you seem to prefer a hand brush for cleaning.
BDC, joking apart, thanks for the contrasting juxtaposition including photographs.

A very interesting comparison, thanks BDC.

And useful for me to see some more views of your 818. I notice that yours has twin tail lights, whereas mine only has one, with a blank plate where another either once was or once wasn't fitted.

Although both cars look terrific I prefer the smoother lines of the Packard to the Cadillac, but I guess that's a biased perspective.

All the best, J.

Yes that would be a rare trio, but I don't think it will be happening. Matter of fact we are willing to sell the cadillac. My wife says she never drives it (but I do lol), but I like the packards better.

i like the spare tire on the back of the Cadillac over the hug trunk sticking out on the Packard. the Packard with the trunk rack folded up would look better imho.

both nice cars.....wish I had that shop in the background too!

Henry, I agree with you, the rear mounted spare look great on both vehicles. The trunk is an attention getter on shows but it looks cleaner without it. John's coupe in Tasmania has a rear mounted spare and those cars look so much longer, sleeker and cleaner.

We built that shop in 13, and I love it. I built 20 ft longer than I wanted and I still didn't build it big enough! A good friend of mine told me to build it double as big as you (think you) need, looking back he was right.
