G'day Jason,
to PackardInfo, I invite you to include your '56 Clipper in the Packard Owner's Registry. Regarding your query, I'd imagine Ross, a Forum Member here, probably has all the parts you need. Although, from the factory, they came as 3 speed column shift.

WRT MT above bellhousing for 55-56 Packard V-8: anything less than $200 is a good deal.

Ok,based on some much needed input I am going to go with the ford galaxy 4 speed behind my packard bellhousing. Does anyone know where I can get the flywheel and starter? Will the automatic transmission starter work on the manual set up? Does anybody sell these parts new? Thank you in advance,Jason

Jason, I had Ross convert the transmission in my 55 Super Clipper from the Twin Ultramatic to a manual. He had access to another Clipper which he used to supply all the parts. The clutch linkage is complicated, but perhaps the parts from an earlier Packard will work. The driveshafts are different too. He did the swap incorporating the column shift. Much pleased with the work and the Clipper.

The T-U starter works just fine.
The flywheel is a little more problematic, but they are out there. For the clutch, use a Ford style 3 finger 11" pressure plate and 10-spline disc (if you use the Galaxy 4-speed). Those are commonly available. You'll have to figure out what to do with the clutch & linkage, but I am using a hydraulic setup so I don't have to mess with the Rube Goldberg type original linkage. There are other details like the pilot bearing, length of the input shaft and driveshaft. All you need to do is bring your fat wallet. LOL Good luck. Craig
