Show and Shine - Highlands Hub, Mittagong 2017

Inspired by BigKev's report and photos of the 4th Annual Glen Ellyn, IL Vintage AutoFest, I attended a local Show and Shine today only about 5 minutes from home.

About 100+ cars in attendance but only one Packard. Plenty of Aussie cars, Holdens and Ford Falcons, British cars with always a good turnout of Morris Minors, European and some Japanese, Hot Rods, Customs, American iron, lots of horsepower enhanced cars but few pre WW2 original cars. There was one Brass Era Car, a 1906 Darracq, which I was able to get up close and personal with. However my favourite, for peoples choice, was a Goggomobil Dart, sadly it didn't win.

Hi Mal

Thanks for the great pictures. Did they let you drive the Darracq? Always good to have at least one Packard in attendance to show the assembled what real elegance and quality is.

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

Mal, also my thanks for the photos. Your HH Cars 1 photo shows a somewhat hidden light blue with a white roof car next to a smaller red car which brings to mind something I have been curious about.

There is an Australian TV show rebroadcast over here called Dr. Blake Mysteries. Filmed in the last 3-4 years, the series is set in the late 50s early 60s period. There is a light blue car driven by police personnel. Seen from the side it looks a bit like a 53-4 Plymouth or Dodge. They never show the front or rear long enough to read a name but was wondering if you had seen the series and might know what kind of car it is.

Dr. Blake drove a temperamental 37 Standard which was finally identified in the episode where he buys a new car -- Vauxhall, I think, and except for looking longer was wondering if the police car might be the same.

G'day Howard,

Better photo showing the car in question is an early '60's Ford Falcon.

Not a watcher of the Doctor Blake Mysteries, but will do so to see if I can make an ID on the car in question.

Thanks, Mal but don't go to special trouble to watch the show. I don't know how far we are behind the airing there -- probably a year -- and I think the final episodes were to be filmed in 2016.. The car isn't in every episode anyway. I just thought you might have seen it in passing and might remember the car.

Howard,

Is the police car the one seen in this video at the 29 second mark? If it is, it's a Ford Zephyr Mark 1. If not, I'll continue looking.

Images of Mk1 Zephyrs.

Mal, that is it and I would never have guessed a Ford. I was thinking something along the lines of a 53-54ish Plymouth or Dodge body with a different grille. Thanks so much for taking the time to find the car.

Howard,

Although somewhat similar lines, a Zephyr is a much smaller car than a Dodge or Plymouth.
