To my recollection, there are only 2 screws holding the points in place; 1 is an adjustment screw and the other is on the outer end of the 'points plate'. Once both screws are removed they just lift out easily. Chris

Based on my recollection of the slightly later AutoLite units, the adjustment screw turns in an eccentric to facilitate gap adjustment but is itself not removed to change points.

That is correct. One doesn't remove the eccentric adjuster so only the single screw holding the assembly in place needs to be removed.

Just went through that with my 48 - The hold down screw is removable , but the adjustment screw is not removable - BTW , anyone know the size of the screw that holds the condenser in place ?
