55 Diff Yoke

Hi All,

For all those australian members i bring sad news. My 1955 Packard Caribbean will not be attending the national rally this coming week

If someone can help me solve this problem I would be very grateful. Whilst doing the gearbox swap we have found out that the rear diff yoke is unusable (worn out) Over here in Aus the guy working on the car has advised that they haven't built that size yoke over here in 30 years. Is there any knowledge of anything that will fit (note: the new gearbox is a 727 torqueflite and they were talking about possibly using a chrysler yoke.) and help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

Usual procedure when converting to the 727 torqueflight is to modify the driveshaft using a Chrysler front slip type u-joint with the Packard flanged type used at the rear. If this is the case then a repair kit for the Packard rear u-joint should do the trick.

Thankyou for your replies,

Unfortunately to my dismay the 34 won't be there either We went to put the crankshaft back in a few weks ago but it wouldn't turn. It had a spiral bend from the 2nd to the 8th journal, so now thats with perry and sons awaiting work to be done on it but they are fully booked up for the next 2 months .

You can imagine how great I feel I have 2 Packards and they are both off the road for the national rally

Mat,

Sorry to hear all that. About a week ago Wade did tell me about the spiral bend in the crankshaft and I'd imagine that's a very uncommon occurrence. However as we'll see you at the Rally and, presuming the '41 makes it OK, I'll give you a drive so you don't suffer too much from Packard withdrawal.

BTW - Where's that Owner Registry entry for the Carib?

Mal,

Thank you thats very kind of you. The 55 is now in the owners registry. I had to find the Interior code on the door trim and each time I went to the car I forgot to get it. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Let the fun begin
