Hi Tom, thank you for the 38 Super 8 plate photo! It appears the plate may have a more permanent printing or embossing for the model/serial space. Is it too much trouble to get a close up of that space? Yours looks like 110X?
Does this indeed look like a water-slide decal?
thanks
Craig

What is the plumbing right next to the plate?

If you're asking about the tubing in post #9 at the upper right corner of the decal, it's the capillary feed to the oil pressure gauge.

Thanks. Figured it was something like that but the fitting thru firewall seems so big --like it's a support for something directly mounted to it. Am too used to the fairly thin tubing and gauges mounted in dash on postwar cars I guess.

On the other side of the cowl, there is also a big fitting and then the thin tubing you referenced goes from the fitting to the oil gauge. The big fitting is just to connect the thin tube on both sides.

Here's a picture of general number locations (except the decal which you already have). They varied location a bit year to year but format stayed identifiable. Another member has posted a picture of an actual unreadable decal here:https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=24434#forumpost24434

Howard, the stamped plate under the Body Dash Number in the illustration looks suspiciously like a Briggs Body Number, but that could not be.

It does, doesn't it. I don't know what to offer. In details like that on prewar cars, I'm mostly out of my element or comfort zone.

If someone has a replica or a very good original 39 data plate, it would be possible to take a good closeup photo of it, and make a reproduction sticker for a 38 car. The patent numbers might be a bit off, but that's one way to make a reproduction. If anyone is interested let me know.

I found this on ebay, but it is obviously the wrong one for 38.
