How do you get the crank hole cover off?

Okay, I know one of the factory tools did this, but, I don't have the factory tools. So, how do you get the crank hole cover off a 1929 grille?

Going to do new plugs, set the valves, and give Sophie a decent little tune-up over my Christmas vacation (hopefully), but gotta get that cover off to hand crank over the engine.

Hopefully this is something so simple I'm just overlooking it. Thanks!

You need to unscrew it anticlockwise a small amount to disengage it. It can be difficult to engage the shallow hexagonal indent on the cover without a suitable tool.

The Packard lug wrench has the proper hex to take off the cover.

Unfortunately it's not the lug wrench, it's the hubcap cover removal tool. I have the original lug wrench with the car. And hubcap tool, I don't have that one. Only a couple of the car's original tools stayed with it - the crank, the lug wrench, and the jack! Doesn't seem to be much way of grabbing that thing.

That tool is readily available. Kanter Auto has them....I picked one up there last year for $50 (I think that was the price). I saw a bunch at Hershey for sale for in the $25 range. Max Merritt also probably has them.....

You can also go under the car and try to unscrew it from the back...there are three "teeth" that slide into the radiator cover that holds it in place. A large pair of channel locks will work to grab the teeth and twist the disk out

Make one out of wood. That is what I did to avoid scratching the parts.
