1956 Patrician trunk hinge

Hi,
One of the pieces fell off the trunk hinge on my 1956 Patrician. It looks like there is a pin that goes through a bracket (that con move freely) which then goes through a backing plate that it is pressed into. The issue is that over time, the hole in the backing plate has become bigger, and the pin pops out. Now that the hole is too big, what is the best way to secure it? I have tried with a snap ring, and thought about replacing the pin with a bolt and nut, but I don't think that is the right solution. It seems like what is needed is to secure the pin to the backing plate. Would jb-weld work for this? Or how about fixing it by spot welding the pin to the plate? The bracket needs to be able to move freely. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

I'd recommend you just replace the hinge if it has that much wear.

Gerry as Packard's Southwest or Mike Dulinski will have those available.

As far as I know, the same hinge was used from 1951 through 1956 with some improvements along the way so should be very easy to find. I have many of them myself but I would try the regular sealers first.

Thanks for the info. I moved to Finland last summer, so I will probably try to create a temporary fix for now, and get a replacement when visiting the US.

You might try to see if a local machine shop and press in a bushing to make up the slack and then re-peen/replace the stud as needed.

I try not to make this platform an advertisement, but since I’m already answering the water pump kit question, I might as well let you know that Max Merritt ships Packard parts globally every day. Let me know if you would like our help.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to weld the pin onto the backing plate, and the hinge works well again.
