I don't know if it would be detailed enough to be of any help but there is some timing and ign setting information in the 7th series owners manual starting on page 42.

Breaker point gap 0.020"

Ignition timing 21/32" before TDC at the perimeter of the flywheel (starter motor removed), spark control to fully advanced. There is an excellent illustration in the owner's manual.

Thank you.

I read the manual but thought I would be able to get it much tighter sync if I used my timing light.

The manual indicates to use sandpaper for the points (cleaning) I normally use a extra fine file. Suggestions?

The reason for my ask is that I sometimes get a little hesitation and possibly a backfire if I hit the accelerator too hard, too fast.
