Found the post below in the Chatroom. Will PM Stephen about re-posting it in this Forum.

[stephenmajors]: I am rebuilding a '53, 288 ci and I would like to change the rope rear main seal to a neoprene seal if possible. I am looking for someone that has done this. I have the engine at a good machine shop that is willing and capable of making changes to the block and rear main cap if given a proven method.

I don't doubt someone has done it, but the rope seal properly installed is certainly good for in excess of 100,000 miles generally, so I don't see it's worth the bother, in that number of miles the engine will be due for work anyway.

I agree with owen-dyneto. I use the rope seal. The only thing I do is add a bit of rtv gasket sealer to the ends of the rope. Works fine.

G'day Steve,
A formal to PackardInfo. And now that you're "on board", could you please include your '53 in the Owner Registry together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it?
