Not sure from your description what's happening, or not happening. What model car do you have?

G'day EvilIan,
to PackarInfo. I invite you to include your '4/5?(I'm guessing here) Packard in PackardInfo's Packard Vehicle Registry.

Regardless of model, first check your spark with a spark tester. No spark? Clean your points.
If that's good, then disconnect the fuel line from the carb and hold it into a Jerry can. Have someone crank it. You should see strong spurts of fuel. No fuel? Fill up the tank if it's low as they can develop pinholes in the line. If still nothing then your pump probably needs rebuilt. If you have fuel then remove the air cleaner and actuate the throttle linkage. You should see gas shoot into the air duct. If not then your accelerator pump is bad.

Good Morning...Just a bit of experience here...Our 49 288 will start up right now if she is driven every day or every other day. If Miss Prudence sits for a week or longer...She takes four (4) eight second cranks to start. The open fuel system will dry out the fuel line all the way to the tank...that is more than ten feet of sucking for the fuel pump to suck fuel up to the pump and then push it into the carburetor...Just another thought...Prudence is a chubby chick, but she is popular when I take her out for breakfast...Ernie in Arizona
