Window trim screws

Since my car is across town and I'd rather not make several trips or reinvent the wheel (I'm being lazy) can someone tell me what size screws and washer I need to get for the interior window trim on my 1941 180? I have a couple of missing ones. I would like to get some before I go to the car again but I don't want to order a full set.

I recommend you take a look at the parts list to confirm for yourself, but here is what it looks like to me. It looks like the trim on the front door windows may use a different lengths than the trim on the rear door windows. I'm seeing 3/4in and 7/8in. From there, it appears that your car calls for #8 jackson screws... These are #8 screws with a #6 head. All will be oval head.

And when you figure the quantity and size needed, Restoration Specialties MAY still have what you need and will sell in small quantities. Here is a partial page from a 5 year old catalog showing what they had at that time in the special smaller head sheet metal type screws. You can download their current catalog to check latest availability and prices.

When I did my 47 there were some sizes only available in longer screws which sometimes ran into space clearance issues due to the extra length. On some screws I had to cut a portion of the screw off using a Dremel and regrind a rudimentary point.

One thing to watch for, is that you want slotted oval heads, not phillips. The table that Howard posted is for phillips. As I recall when I was looking for my car recently, the Restoration Specialities catalog only listed phillips head. But, if you call or email them, I believe they do have slotted head.

Interesting that slotted head screws were used as Phillips head existed by then. The company was founded, as I recall, in or around 1935 but maybe they hadn’t become widely used yet.

Packard didn't use Phillips screws in any form until 1938.

There is a SC advertising a set of Phillips screws drivers needed to work on 1938 models.

I clearly spoke out of turn before. I just had 1937 stuck in my head. The request was for a 1941, so it likely had Phillips head screws.

Thanks all. I had looked through my copy of the parts manual and couldn't really determine out of that line up of sizes and lengths what applies to what. I had also looked at the Restoration Supplies catalog and found it to be pretty overwhelming when I didn't know what I was looking for. I am now pointed in the right direction and may just get a few of different lengths rather than ordering a whole $45 kit from Max Merrit. Does the cup shaped washer that sits behind the head have a specific name other than "washer"? To me that would mean a flat washer not a cupped washer when I need the cupped type.

What you’re looking for is called a “flush type” washer in the Restoration Specialties catalog.

I was able to find those washers on Amazon or ebay far cheaper. I think I got a 100 pack for $9.

Check my project blog.
