I have a 52 packard patrician 400 with a 327 thunderbolt that needs a starter does anyone know a good place to get one, or a car that the starter would work.

G'day packardman52,
to PackardInfo, and sorry I can't help with your query.

But could you please include your '52 Pat in the Packard Owner's Registry, together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it?

Is the car currently missing it's starter? If it is still in the car, but does not work, then it just may need a simple rebuild.

If it is missing, they come up on ebay sometimes. There is one on their now, but the drive gear is chewed up. Post in the buy/sell section of this website and I'm sure someone would have one.

Hope this is a stupid question - you have a positive ground, right, and the negative power cable from the battery to the starter is really thick, like a 1 or 2 AWG? (most battery cables are 4AWG, smaller number is a bigger wire).

Take a non-working starter to any local alternator rebuild place and ask them if they can dig into it for you, or do it yourself. This forum can help either way.

I have a few starters for your vehicle in my barn. Do you need an Autolite or Delco for your car? Let me know and we can work something out.
