I recently acquired a 1932 series 901 where the owner had started a frame up restoration. The frame has been finished and he has placed the body on new (what appears to be ash) stiles. What should the floorboards be made of and how were they attached to the stiles?

Hi Marston, and welcome to P-Info!

An excellent source of information available close to you is the Nethercutt Collection located in nearby Sylmar. They have an extensive library and will allow visitors to conduct research and can provide copy's for a nominal fee. If you haven't been, it is a worthwhile trip.

I hope this helps,
Jim

G'day Marston,
Like to add my to PackardInfo and congratulations on your Packard purchase. Plus I invite you to include your '32 901 in the Packard Owner's Registry here, together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it?

Thanks - that's where we are headed in the morning. We are going there to fine out about period correct paint colors and to get information on interior fabric colors.

We have been there about four times and have viewed cars on both sides of the street. Attended their Christmas show last year and it was great.

Just input info on the car in Packard registry, probably while you guys were typing.

Marston,

Congratulations on your acquisition!

The rear floorboards measure 1/2 thick and are screwed to wood blocks that rest on the frame. There is a sheet metal lip on the front and rear of the rear compartment floor pan that the rear floorboards sit on.

I looked at the ones on mine and it appears they are laminated wood, similar to plywood, painted with a dull black finish.

The front floor boards are secured the same way, except there is a covering of sheet metal on the bottom of both front floorboards (one flat, one angled up).

If you're looking for these or any other '32 parts I've had good luck with John Ulrich Packard parts at:

julrichpackard.com/index.htm

In addition to reproduction parts he also can help with old stock needs.

Regards,

Dave

Dave,

Thanks for the help and taking that extra step to look at how your 901 is put together . I'm thinking that I'll use exterior plywood and prime and paint with an oil based product.

Marty
