I need an exploded view of the steering column and shift linkage for my 1955 Clipper/Panama. It feels like some thing is binding when it goes into park. There is nothing in my Packard repair manual about this.

Have you checked the 55/56 Part Plates in the Photo Archive here? (also found in the 55/56 Parts List Manual). Here is the one on the steering column itself:

Bernie -

I doubt if the problem lies in the steering column, but more likely has to do with the transmission's internal parking pawl and gear - and not the only car made to ever suffer from that.

Have you checked our site's Packard Service Index? It is an online reference to factory-published, supplemental service infomation, and there are several entries relative to parking lock in the Twin Ultramatic section for the 1955-56 cars.
