A friend of mine is restoring a 1923 Packard roadster. He has asked me to help him find the correct color for his car as he is almost ready to paint but doesn't know the color of paint he needs. Does anyone know the correct color for a 1923 roadster. Thanks.

PackardInfo member DavidM would probably be able to guide you and your friend in the right direction but, he's currently in Europe and returns in about a month. I'll send him an email for his return, if you can wait that long, and he should respond.

Also, I invite your friend to join PackardInfo and to include his '23 Roadster in the Packard Owners Registry here.

Tell "your friend" that he needn't be shy about owning a Packard and he would be among friends here.

There are lots of support groups for Packard owners like "your friend" with help on hand from people who will not judge you.... I mean "him".

DavidM responded to my email to advise he thinks he knows the scheme but doesn't want to comment until he's refreshed his memory after returning on the 8th July. Apparently it's in the "Packard Facts Book", of which there are a number in the Packard Literature and Manuals section here but none of those is specifically for First Series Packards. David will check his copy on return and advise.

A question from DavidM, is the car a 6 or an 8? Let us know because David thinks the colours are different.

Thanks for checking this out. I've e-mailed my friend for more information on his car. I'm pretty sure it's a six since it's listed in our club roster as a model 126. I also think it's a coupe, not a roadster.

Once you've determined exactly what your friends Packard is, I'll forward the info to DavidM.

I finally heard back from my friend. I guess computers and e-mail aren't his thing. He has a 4 passenger coupe, model 126. It has two doors and a six cylinder engine. The back seat is 3/4 size with a liquor cabinet behind the driver's seat. The carburator has a spark plug (fuelizer).

He is also wondering about the jump seat(s). He has the brackets on the floor but does not have the folding seats. He requests any information anyone has on this as well as the paint colors for this car.

The other day on the train, while returning home from donating blood plasma, I was reading "The Packard Guide" by Dr. Robert B. Marvin and the second paragraph on page 73, partly reproduced below, contains a comment about colours for the Single Six cars of that era. While not definitive, it may be of some assistance until DavidM returns from Europe. Also brings to mind someone called Henry Ford!

Just wondering if DavidM is back and if he has found the paint information my friend requires. Thanks.
