A machinist my brother works for is looking to do some side work. He was asking my brother for info on parts houses that need parts either made for them or for us car hobbyist.

Does anyone here know of part supply house that could use a machinist to make parts for them?

Just wanted to let you all know what he has machined for me already. The screws for the outside aluminum running board trim, the luggage rack screws that hold on the wood grain pieces and some other mics drilling and milling for me.

He does some outstanding work.

I think there has been talk of a fan hub spacer that need to be made up to adapt a mopar fan. That could be a worthy project.

I know someone who is occasionally paid $250 an hour to fly around the country and do specialized work for some of these high rollers.

So my advice is join a club that offers advertising and set up.

When I was out at GM Tech they also had a machinist program, but everybody was griping that CNC was going to wipe out the specialist. Now suddenly there are no specialists and so there is a shortage. If this country ever begins to come to is senses demand will explode.

The way things are going is absurd. I was a practicing mathematician for 20 years and then the bottom fell out. Now the entire financial system is being run by political science majors. It's all about politics.

Recently, demand for ASE Master Techs has picked up so I'm feeling a little better. For awhile I thought I might as well burn my certificates. The bottom was when I was told "You can be the greatest mechanic in the world, but if you don't have the right attitude that car won't run." As if talk is a natural resource.

When I go back and look at the financial statements of the Packard Company the honesty is astounding. Today's financial reporting is all crap.

Today's financial reporting is not actually crap, they use the Financial Accounting and Review Technique, FART.

Smoke and mirrors. The sad fact is that everyone knows it and keeps the lies going. At some point someone has to tell the emperor he has no clothes left.

If I might suggest:

A/C and alternator brackets for the v-8s are something many people talk about but virtually no one really has.

Personally, rather than a fan spacer for a mopar fan, I'd just like a six blade fan that fits; one that has been machined to fit the stock setup. Is that possible?

Some of you are mechanically capable of using a simple adapter; I'm six thumbed so would prefer a kit offering everything, including clear directions....... I'm tired of assembling parts from ten vendors which don't really align......

I'm in the group that just wants to drive the cars, not fart with them.

For a new steel just bolt it on fan, then --so far at least-- I think the possible options may be limited to the modified Mopar I mentioned in this threadhttps://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=83656#forumpost83656

Have been looking in several places since that post and while many have steel 6 blade fans, to date all I can find that look promising for us all have the slots and the small hole or a large hole and a different bolt pattern designed for a thermostatic clutch. That fan would have it's own issues and would need a different adapter.

To find out for sure if this Mopar would work, it is going to take someone spending $70 to buy it, carefully measuring or comparing to a Packard fan, and then if things look promising either doing or sending to someone and having the center hole cut and the bolt holes elongated. If I needed a fan, would consider doing it but otherwise don't see many alternatives at present.

Quite honestly while it would be fairly low volume, a fan or adapter kit would not be expensive and I think might be a project for a region.
