1955 Dual Carb manifold question

Hi All,
After just over 2 years my 1955 Packard Caribbean should be on the road mid week. For those of you using Facebook, I have uploaded an album showing the progress (will upload to picasa tomorrow and post a link to the album) Facebook album link:http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150465414402550.380485.647622549&type=1&l=66817654c8 I also have a question in regards to the dual 4bbl manifold setup. As from the pictures attached you will see between ports 3 & 5 you will notice a black cap. This is currently covering a small hole (looks like a hole for a vacuum line) but I already have another vacuum line running as seen in picture 2. I was advised the the hole in question in the first photo was an outlet for exhaust heat. (As yet I haven't had the engine running for a period to check) but was wondering if anyone can provide any information Many thanks, Mathew

Here are a couple of shots of what mine looks like. As O_D says, some problems with the linkage. There is a good picture and instructions in service counselor 29 #6 on how dual carb linkage should be and adjustments.

Thank you for the information.
It appears I have the wrong carburators, they are 7005900 (front) & 700700 (rear) Looks like i may need to look for some correct ones... I am currently running the torqueflite 727. Thanks also for the pictures, I will use that & the counselor info as a reference guide

Though you're missing a digit from the number on the rear carburetor, I don't believe either of those was originally fitted to a Packard. Most likely from a GM car.
Best of luck finding a matched set of the correct carbs for either a 55 or 56 Caribbean (and 56s differ quite a bit from 55), they are not easy to find. If the venturi sizes on the ones you have are correct for the Packard, you might get decent performance by rejetting them to match the jet sizes Packard used - I've got plenty of used jets in a wide range of sizes if you want to give it a try. I think the correct jet sizes are given in that Service Counselor. For quick reference to Packard carburetor numbers, I use the chart on the PAC website, under "Reference".

Since the talk is about Carb.
I am finished with the 50 Chevy 5 window and need to refocus on my 55 Pat. The Rochester 4GC all always needed a rebuild and noticed that the choke heat tube where it connects to the manifold is corroded/rusted and looks very brittle. Suggestions would be appreciated as how I should proceed, I don't know how it is attached or if it is solid or a tube, should I just clean it up a bit and try not to break it or do a proper repair. it just pops right out. the stove part stays in the manifold.
mine broke off and since mine was off the car i just drill out the remaining left behind tubing, but was carefull not to nick the stove tube. to replace just get some more line and bend to correct bends. i'm about to do this myself.

Not sure what you're referring to as decreasing in size but yours looks correct as far as shape. There was a different number between 55 and 56 though. Here is one off a 56 and there was no woven shield in either year such as the duals used.
This one appears to be 1/4" steel tubing. The carb end has a flare although the nut appears to be the type more commonly seen with compression fittings instead of flares. The manifold end will be the hard one to duplicate precisely. It has a stop ridge 1/2" from the end & not sure how you could make that. Otherwise, it is plain tubing and just slides into the manifold choke tube up to the ridge as Cli55er mentioned.

i doubt that stop ridge is actually needed. just don't shove it in any further then what is pictured. mine also did not have any heat shielding.
i don't know what the fitting was like on mine as it got thrown out by the machine shop...thanks machine shop. Hank
