I am converting from mechanical to electric fuel pump. Where can I get a block off plate once I take the mechanical fuel pump off?

Most any parts store should be able to help. Different styles and sizes but shouldn't be too hard to find one that works. Start with those listed for mid 50s Ford.

That's the one I am looking for. So far neither Auto Zone and Advance Auto has this one. They both carry only the 4 bolt long version. Where do you get summit parts????

Got one from O'reillys. Now tell me what you think of my idea. I want to weld a threaded stud on low center to mount the compression brackett and mount the elec fuel pump
vertically right where the mech. pump used to be. Good idea bad idea???????????????

Bad Idea. Electric fuel pumps are better as "pushers" as opposed to "pullers". You should mount it back as close to the tank as possible. Mount it in the frame rail channel to give it a little protection from rocks and road debris.

Electric pumps are OK to prime the carb if the car has been sitting a long time.I would never give up the mechanical pump nor would I run the car on an electric pump.My car sat for a year and a half and started on the third try with a mechanical pump.

Agreed. My electric is only used for priming/vapor lock backup. Otherwise, I am running off the mechanical full time.

On two of my Packards I would run them and they would run fine. Then there was a period of inactivity. I would try to start them and nothing. I would prime them and they would run until the carb ran out of gas. I then ran one of them with an electric fuel pump and have not had a problem. I have heard all of the push vs pull discussions, but I don't drive my cars that much so for me it makes no difference. I need them to start and run when I want them to and I have no patience for mechanical failures.
