Hi all! I just need a little help. I found that I have what appears to be a 1928 goddess of speed hood ornament. It is in pretty good shape other than missing the foot off of her extended leg. I was curious what something like this is Worth? Any ideas.

I believe that is a Junior ornament for 1938-39. Certainly not 1928.

When I google the 1928 hood ornament it looks the same other than mine is missing the foot. It has the part number 4536.
I am just looking for a value as I have a gentlemen interested in buying it.

I'm in agreement with Mr. Peterson that the ornament couldn't date to 1928. According to the Kimes Packard history the design patent was approved on June 1, 1937 and the ornament was phased into Super 8 production in 1937 and used in 1938 also (see Kimes, pages 758 and 761.) Supposedly, the ornament was reserved for Senior Packards as the Juniors (120 and Six/115C/110) had their own ornament with a less ornate wing design; see photo on page 759, Kimes. However, I've seen several juniors with the senior ornament over the years. I imagine the dealer would gladly supply any ornament the customer wanted to buy.

As to the value of this particular ornament, the part of the base that is broken off contained a stud or tang that would fit into its pedestal and insure directional stability when mounted atop the radiator shell. Without it I'd expect the ornament to loosen and turn to either side as wind gusts are encountered. So it's useless and therefore worthless as a hood ornament, at least to me. It might make a nice desk ornament or paperweight; whatever price you work out with your buyer would be a plus for you as far as I'm concerned.

Don's assessment of the value is correct. Here's an identical ornament on ebay, also misidentified. If it was properly identified, the price is five or six times too high.

If you can get more than $20 for it, don't look back.

That looks just like the one on my 38 Jr. coupe. I think the 39 had the glass wing
