I recently acquired a 1955 Caribbean Convertible #5588-1293, Paint MUH and Trim 97. There is a dash plaque that says the car was built for Bob Hope but no supporting documentation? Any ideas how I may be able to trace the history?

G'day jonf432,
to PackardInfo and for including your '55 Caribbean Convertible Coupe in the Packard Vehicle Registry.

Concerning tracing the history of your Caribbean, if it was formerly owned by a PAC member, the Roster Keeper for V8 Caribbeans may have some details. Link to PAC Website, Roster Keepers can be found in the menu area on left of screen. And you can check the Registry entries on this Site in case it's ever been recorded here.

Very nice looking car. Unfortunately I have not been able to find much on online so far. I can tell you it was the 293rd made for that year but not much else.

Hopefully your situation is not like in the Seinfeld episode "The Mom & Pop Store" with the LeBaron once owned by John Voight

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

Always get the documentation with the car prior to purchase.
Might be able to contact the Hope estate lawyers and see what they can say.
I think any '55 records would be in the Studebaker museum. They have an archivist who researches stuff. I used them to find drawings, etc.
